More About LISAS CIC
Lisa, the founder and director of LISAS CIC, started out with an idea and a passion to end social isolation in the local community. Lisa established LISAS, which stands for Leisure Inclusive Social Activity Services, single-handedly in October 2020 and worked tirelessly to become a Social Enterprise Community Interest Company (CIC) in March 2022, building up a team of like-minded, caring volunteers to help her on the journey, including two directors. We are a not-for-profit organisation, relying on funding, donations, and our amazing team of passionate and dedicated volunteers to enable us to provide the services we do.

Here at LISAS CIC, we pride ourselves on being inclusive, and therefore we offer a variety of activities that cater to all interests and needs. LISAS provides a welcoming, warm, and safe space where people can participate in a variety of activities during our social groups, such as quizzes, baking, MAGIC (Movement and Games in Chair), games, crafts, bingo, and more.

We host four different groups in Heckmondwike, Cleckheaton, and Birkenshaw, and are lucky enough to welcome members from surrounding areas, including Leeds and Bradford. We go on five outings and one day trip a year. Recent ones include ten-pin bowling, boat trip on the canal, crown green bowling, and a meal out at a local restaurant. We offer a loan service of books and jigsaws at all our groups, as well as puzzle sheets such as crosswords, word searches, and brain teasers, to name a few. Our Tuesday afternoon and Thursday group have dementia-friendly resources for members to loan

LISAS collaborates with many local organisations, and we regularly have guest speakers attending our groups. A lady from Carers Count regularly attends both of our groups for people living with dementia to help support and offer advice to our carers. The access bus is also available to transport our members to and from our Tuesday and Wednesday groups. It is free of charge to anyone over 65 with a bus pass and costs £3 for anyone under 65.
Our aim is to foster inclusivity and vibrancy in our social groups and outings for individuals over 50. We are committed to providing a welcoming and engaging environment, creating a supportive community that provides social connections while enhancing overall wellbeing.

Enhanced Mental Health
Isolation is one of the leading causes of depression in older adults. Loneliness can easily turn to feelings of worthlessness and despair. On the other hand, socialising can help older adults feel loved and needed as their lives are affirmed by the activities they do and by those with whom they interact. Being around other people, especially if you’re doing something fun or rewarding, helps us keep a healthy mental state with a positive outlook on life.
